The Embassy of Japan presents its compliments to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Immigration of the Government of the Republic of Kiribati and has the honour to inform the latter that the former is offering the following four categories of scholarships to the citizens of the Republic of Kiribati under the Japanese Government (MEXT) scholarship for 2027.

Interested candidates are required to complete and forward the application forms with relevant documents to the Embassy of Japan in the Republic of Kiribati, Tekainga Maneaba, Ambo Village, by 4.30pm Wednesdav, 20 May 2026.The application forms and the scholarship guidelines are linked above and can also be obtained at the Embassy Reception at Ambo Office.
Based on the above mentioned, the research student scholarship recipient (category 1. above) may continue to pursue Master’s or Doctorate’s course. The undergraduate student scholarship and college of technology recipient (category 2. and 3.) would pursue a Bachelor’s degree course, and specialized training college student scholarship recipient (category 4.) would pursue a diploma course in their selected fields of study. Students in category 2. 3. and 4. can pursue further studies under this scholarship programmes if they meet the criteria and conditions laid out by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports Science and Technology (MEXT) of Japan.
The Embassy has further the honour to inform that due to the scholarship awards being highly competitive on a worldwide basis, the above-mentioned invitation does not constitute a commitment by the Government of Iapan to a quota for scholarship recipients.
