The Public Service Office is pleased to announce that the Inservice Scholarship for 2026 is now OPEN. Please refer to the following criteria. Conditions apply.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
- The Program applied for must be consistent with the Academic In-service Priority List 2026-2028.
- Age Limit:
- For Undergraduate Programs – must not be 45 years or over in the time of application.
- For Postgraduate Programs – must not be over 50 years in the time of application.
(NOTE: A medical report is required as part of the application to confirm that you are medically fit to undertake academic studies. Failure to produce this medical report will disqualify your application).
- Must be a Kiribati Citizen
- Need Evidence of Citizenship (Birth Certificate (LONG) or Passport or National ID card).
- Must have been an employee of the public sector (continuously) for at least 3 years
- 3 years’ continuous employment either on contract or permanent appointment in the government agency (PSC appointment and SRO confirmation letter required) or
- 3 years in government projects (contract appointment on project position and SRO confirmation letter required) or
- At least 2 years continuous contract service on project (other than government) within Kiribati plus at least 1 year service (either contract/permanent) in government agency/Ministry (contract appointment on project position and SRO confirmation letter required.
- Must be in a permanent position at the time of application.
- Must have passed English and Computer skills required to undertake a tertiary study
- If applying for postgrad program- bachelor’s degree Certificate with proof that the program is conducted in English language.
- If applying for undergraduate program-
- to provide evidence pass of English Requirement- IELTS/TOEFL/UU114 or LL114/TAFE- must be all valid.
- to provide evidence of pass in Computer course requirement- UU100.
IMPORTANT NOTE – Must provide academic transcripts as proof of the requirements above.
- Must meet the entry requirement of the University or Program applied for:
- Need proof through provision of an Offer Letter or Acceptance/Offer of Placement letter from the University.
- Provide Post Graduate Research proposal (if applicable)
IMPORTANT NOTE – Apply first to USP (exceptions are for Health Workers who have programs offered by FNU only). Only if your program is not offered by USP, then you may apply to FNU.
- IT IS A MANDATORY REQUIREMENT THAT ALL DOCMENTS ARE CERTIFIED BY COURT. APPLICATIONS NOT COMPLYING WITH THIS REQUIREMENT WILL BE REGARDED AS INCOMPLETE AND SCREENED OUT. COPYING A ‘CERTIFIED COPY’ IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. THE COPY SUBMITTED SHOULD BE A CERTIFIED COPY OF THE ORGINAL DOCUMENT THAT HAS ORIGINAL STAMP FROM THE COURT. KINDLY TAKE NOTE ALSO OF THE LONG PUBLIC HOLIDAY STARTING FROM THE 25TH OF DECEMBER 2025 TILL THE 2ND OF JANUARY 2026, HENCE APPLICANTS ARE URGED TO HAVE THEIR DOCUMENTS READY AND CERTIFIED BEFORE THEN.
- CLOSING DATE:
- Application forms must be submitted to your Ministry/SOE/KANGO/KCCI by Wednesday, 14th January 2026.
- Eligible Applications are to be submitted to the PSO by employer no later than Friday, 16th January 2026 before 5.15pm.
IMPORTANT NOTE – Late Applications will not be considered.
